Being vegetarian travelers used to be a real challenge in Hanoi, but it’s not anymore! As the vegetarian dining scene has blossomed in the last decade, and there are more vegan friendly places in Hanoi than ever.
Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or just searching for plant-based dining options, it’s nice to have personal recommendations. That’s why Flavors of Hanoi comes up with this list, featuring the 5 best vegan friendly restaurants in Hanoi.
Even curious carnivores would agree that the tasty vegan options available at these restaurants would please even the most discerning palate. We’re confident that you’ll find the very best veggie dining experiences using this best 5 list as your guide.
1. Ưu Đàm Chay
Note: We’ve received a feedback from a visitor who visited the restaurant on Nov 8, 2022, that not all the dishes here are vegan. So, he advised to ask if a dish is all vegan before ordering.
Just a 2-minute walk toward the south from Hoan Kiem Lake, Vegan Uu Dam is an all-vegan restaurant with multiple floors and a green garden. What we really like about this place, beside its beautiful nutritious foods, is the creative presentation and tranquil ambience in a zen kind of way.
The menu’s spreading over 20-page booklet, but every dish is beautifully presented. If all vegan food was as well cooked and presented as those, it would be an easy transition. Our favorite fruit dishes at Uu Dam Chay are avocado and mango salad, and the durian fritters with the cream.

2. Vị Lai Vegan Restaurant
Nested quietly on a lane off the Ly Thuong Kiet street of Hanoi French Quarter, but Vi Lai Vegan is among the most well-known vegan restaurants for veggies in the city. The place has a peaceful setting highlighted with lovely koi ponds and lily pads.
Its menu is various with well-decorated vegan dishes and attentive service. There is some fine dining, European vibe in style, and the food is not imitating ‘meaty’ food like they usually do in pagodas.
Like Uu Dam Chay and other vegan restaurants in Hanoi, they receive many local diners who are very much into vegan food – especially on special days of the lunar month due to spiritual reasons.

3. Om Hanoi: Yoga & Cafe
Om Vegan Restaurant set in a spacious garden in the northern part of the city, it’s located between the West Lake and Red River. It serves an abundant variety of local vegan dishes with decent service, there we were enjoying lunch being surrounded by green grass, plants, flowers and butterflies.
We ordered traditional options – the banana flower salad, spring rolls with rice noodles and a bow of pho. If you have the habit of having a coffee after meal, you may find that they only serve teas and other drinks, but no coffee. Come with a mosquito repellant if coming for dinner, as there are three aggressive mosquitos in the garden.

4. Sadhu Vegetarian Restaurant
Vegans are also well catered to, just be sure to explain to the staff. Some of our travelers enjoyed the red pumpkin soup with cream, fried eggplant, spring rolls, banana ice cream, sticky rice soup, mushroom pate, and we ate almost everything.
Sadhu is not really a spacious place comparing to other restaurant of the same type, but this Japanese kind of setting makes us feel comfortable, serene and relaxed. Staffs spoke good English and they were very helpful trying to show us the dishes they want us to try.
Our travelers noted that vegetarian or not, this place is definitely worth a try, and best regards to the owner and chef cook – they should go on an international expansion! For us, though being a huge carnivore, we loved every dish that was brought to the table. The drinks, especially the cinnamon-lemon is a must try!

5. Cai Mam Bistro – Signature Vegan
For those who are wondering around the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake or the charming St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Cai Mam Bistro – Signature Vegan could be an ideal restaurant to stop by for a fine dining experience.
Nested on the first floor of a boutique hotel that lies in front of the church, the restaurant features an elegance ambience that we would normally prefer to have when eating at a Hanoi’s vegan place.
It offers an à la carte and a tasting set menu with innovative dishes, including walnut seeds and seaweed salad, grilled pumpkin soup, brown rice with coconut juice, and braised mushrooms… Beside traditional Vietnamese juices, the restaurant also offers vegan friendly wines menu at affordable prices.
