When speaking of food in Hanoi, street-side bowls of phở and sizzling bún chả often steal the spotlight. But hidden among the elegant French-colonial architectures, near the Embassy of France, is a local restaurant that offers an entirely different dining experience: a grand seafood buffet overflowing with fresh oysters, crab, grilled prawns, sushi, and decadent desserts.
Welcome to Maison Sen Buffet, which is one of Hanoi’s most talked-about buffet restaurants and my family’s favorite place for seafood in Hanoi.
Since 2024, the restaurant has built a reputation for delivering an upscale buffet experience at a surprisingly accessible price. With so many positive reviews online and loyal returning local diners, it has become a hub for celebrations, family gatherings, and travelers eager to taste the local seafoods that Hanoi has to offer.

A First Impression That Feels Grand
Stepping into Maison Sen Buffet, a colonial French villa, I felt more like entering a Hanoi hotel banquet hall than a local seafood restaurant. Colonial style, warm lighting, comfortalbe interiors, and spacious dining rooms create an atmosphere that is elegant without feeling overly formal.
I often walk with my guests on my food tour by the restaurant, and occasionally stop by to use their rest rooms. The villa is often packed, especially at dinner and weekends, which says a lot in a city known for having endless dining options.
Despite the crowd, the buffet stations are impressively organized. Staffs are helpful, and constantly refill dishes, clear plates, or help guests navigate the massive spread of food.

Seafood Lovers Will Feel at Home
The biggest draw at Maison Sen is undoubtedly the seafood selection. Towering trays of crab, shrimp, oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, and grilled shellfish dominate the buffet counters. Diners frequently praise the freshness and variety of the seafood, with many calling it the best seafood buffet in Hanoi.
One of the most enjoyable parts of dining here is the freedom to sample everything in one sitting. You can begin with chilled oysters and sashimi, move on to grilled prawns and Vietnamese hot dishes, then finish with hotpot and desserts — all without leaving your table for long.
The sushi and sashimi stations are also popular, offering salmon, tuna, maki rolls, and Japanese-inspired appetizers alongside traditional Vietnamese cuisine.

More Than Just Seafood
Although seafood is the headline attraction, the buffet extends far beyond the ocean. Maison Sen serves a huge range of Vietnamese dishes, grilled meats, soups, salads, noodles, dim sum, desserts, and international comfort foods. Travelers who want to try many Vietnamese flavors in a single meal often find the restaurant especially appealing.
Even non-seafood dishes stand out in quality compared to many other buffets in Hanoi. Dessert lovers will also appreciate the extensive sweets section, which includes cakes, tropical fruits, ice cream, sweet soups, yogurt, and Vietnamese-style treats.

Tips Before You Go
The restaurant currently operates lunch and dinner buffet sessions daily, it’s busy and noisy at peak hours and weekend. I try to take my family there during the week to avoid the crowd. Beer and wine are charged separately, but not expensive. Book ahead, especially for dinner and weekends. Arrive hungry and expect a energetic atmosphere.
For a certain fee, you get to load up on a wide selection of appetizers, salads, dishes, fresh seafood, and desserts— spanning multiple dietary and culinary preferences. Even better, it’s in the heart of Hanoi – where seafood is not a big part of the city’s daily diet due to its distance from the ocean.
