Situated on the 8th floor of a boutique hotel, JW Marvel Hotel & Spa, the ‘Mam Com Viet’ is a renowned hotel’s Vietnamese restaurant, offering authentic family style meal and unique rooftop views over its surrounding neighborhoods of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and the French Quarter.
Though didn’t stay at the hotel, we got a dinner at its restaurant with our clients when a typhoon was hitting the city last September. From the hotel’s lobby, we took the lift to the 7thfloor, then one flight of stairs up to reach the establishment. Beside a good meal, we also got an amazing view as far as we saw on a rainy day.
Probably, because of the showery weather hindering people from going outside, the comfortably stylist with modern interior ambiance venue was almost full on that Monday evening. The restaurant was beautiful, we had a good feeling about it the moment we stepped in and were warmly greeted by their polite staff.
The menu had plenty of options highlighting local food, so everyone can easily find something to please their palate. It also included a brief introduction to Vietnamese table manners as well as traditions, providing an interesting glimpse of Vietnamese family dining culture to Hanoi visitors.
Like most restaurants in the city, there were set menu but we ordered A la carte instead. For starter, we had a pineapple seafood salad, followed by some Hanoi spring rolls and roasted chicken with lemongrass.
The Banh Xeo, which was cut into smaller pieces making it easier to wrap in lettuce and eat. The taste, though is a little bland and the crust barely crunchy. The green papaya salad with seafood was especially good, as was the stir-fry beef with bamboo shoot dish.
We additionally tried the shrimp in clay pot, which tasted good but contained more chicken than shrimp actually. Every single one of them were beautifully presented, and looked really appetising. Very high-quality ingredients and excellent flavors! All washed down by bottles of Hanoi premium beer.
Staff were friendly and speaking good English, the upervisor who in charge during our dinnertaking care us well with very good service. But the service was sometimes over polite and that made it unnatural. Perhaps they should loosen it up a bit.
Overall, the restaurant is perched in a boutique hotel and its not a skyline view, but it was nice to sit at the window and see some light happenings over the roofs while enjoying especially private ambiance. It’s a perfect spot for a date or to meet someone in Hanoi.

If you would like to have a mixed drink before or after dinner, the hotel has a rooftop bar right above the restaurant. It would be a nice spot for a sunset drink whilst enjoying the surrounding views.
